Why become a member?

Members of WLWA have access to a number of benefits including: 

  • access to professional mentoring programs with senior women lawyers;
  • subscription to our newsletters and bi-annual publication "Without Prejudice" to keep you up to date with news & events relevant to women in the legal profession;
  • access to CPD events organised by WLWA;
  • networking opportunities with women from accross the legal profession;
  • discounts on a number of products including clothing, accessories, wine and flowers; and
  • invitations to social events including the Women Lawyers Honours Dinner, held each year to honour the achievements of women in the legal profession.

Membership to WLWA supports the work of WLWA in a range of important areas, including:

  • women's rights and social justice;
  • law reform; and
  • promotion of women in the legal profession.

We have working groups in each of these areas whose members work tirelessly to bring these benefits to members and women in the legal profession generally. Who can be a member?

Membership of WLWA is open to: 

  • women who have been admitted to practice in Western Australia;
  • women who have obtained a law degree from any Australian university;
  • women who are employed as paralegals; and
  • women who are currently studying a law degree at any university in Western Australia (student membership). 

WLWA offers honourary membership by invitation only.

How do I become a member? 

You can join WLWA by completing an online form and making payment of the subscription fee via PayPal. You will be asked to set up an online account, a profile for inclusion in our member database and a few admin details.

You can pay via a PayPal account or by credit card on the PayPal site. Separate payments by EFT or cheque are accepted, but memberships are not activated until payment is received.

How much does membership cost? 

We have a range of levels of membership to ensure that membership is affordable and available to as many women as possible. The cost ranges from $20 to a maximum of $70. The levels are based on your experience level and hours of work:

  • Student member, Level 1 ($20)- for law students working between 0 and 21 hours per week of paid work.
  • Student member, Level 2 ($35) - for law students engaged in more than 21 hours per week of paid work
  • Ordinary member, Level 1 ($20) - for law graduates who are not yet admitted to practice and working between 0 and 21 hours per week of paid work.
  • Ordinary member, Level 2 ($35) - for law graduates who are not yet admitted to practice and working more than 21 hours per week of paid work.
  • Ordinary member, Level 3 ($25) - for solicitors with less than 5 years experience and working between 0 and 21 hours per week of paid work.
  • Ordinary member, Level 4 ($50)- for solicitors with less than 5 years experience and working more than 21 hours per week.
  • Ordinary member Level 5 ($35) - for solicitors with more than 5 years experience working between 0 and 21 hours per week of paid work.
  • Ordinary member, Level 6 ($70) - for solicitors with more than 5 years experience and working more than 21 hours per week. 

If none of the above categories apply to you, you can still join WLWA as an associate member if you support the objects of WLWA. 

Memberships are valid from the date purchased to the following 30 June.

The cost of your membership to 30 June is halved if you join after 1 January in any year. 

Can my employer pay my membership on my behalf? 

Yes! We are always encouraged to see employers facilitating participation of their women lawyers in our association.

For single memberships we suggest you obtain a reimbursement from your employer or use a company credit card (if available) to make payment.

How do I renew my membership?

If you are a current member, or have previously had an online membership account/profile, please follow the prompts to renew your registration by clicking here.
