As the profession gets ready to celebrate law week, it is important to understand what rights women have in the workplace.

WLWA, in conjunction with The Law Society is providing a presentation and panel discussion of the challenges women face in the law and what rights they have. The event format will be an introduction from Tina McAulay, WLWA President followed by three 15 minute presentations and question time.

Session One - Gender bias in the workplace: Hear from Sarah Hayward about gender bias in the work place – where is it? How does it impact on you and how can you address it?

Session Two - Employment Law, maternity leave and return to work: What happens when a woman goes on maternity leave and returns to work? How does it impact on the employer, how does it impact on the individual? What can you do to support women returning to work? Hear from Josephine Hart about these issues and more.

Session Three - Violence restraining orders and immigration law: What about VRO’s and immigration law? What are women’s rights in relation to these issues, how do you make sense of them? Hear from Janette McCahon to help you understand the affect of these issues on women.

Registration is essential. Cost is free for members of the WLWA and Law Society. Attendees will receive 1 CPD Point. 0.5 for Practice Management and 0.5 for Substantive Law.
