Each year the Committee of WLWA works hard to make sure that the achievements of women in the legal profession of Western Australia are acknowledged and celebrated.

We do this by holding an annual black tie dinner at at which we present our Woman Lawyer of the Year awards and draw attention to significant promotions and appointments of women over the preceeding year.

From 2018, the Committee has resolved to institute two categories of recognition of women's achievements.

Women who have been appointed as a judge, magistrate or senior counsel in Western Australia will be mentioned by name at our dinner, presented with a gift and their professional achievements detailed in the booklet published at the Honours Dinner.

To ensure that we acknowledge the achievements of women in all areas of the law and all typre of practice, this year we will be introducing a category of formal acknowledgements. Women who will be acknowledged will have their achievements listed in the booklet published at the Honours Dinner and on our website following the event. Acknowledgements are made at the discretion of the WLWA committee and subject to the committee being notified of the relevant achievement. Acknowledgements may be given for the folllowing:

  • Appointments as Registrar of Principal Registrar at a Court in Western Australia;
  • Appointments as SAT Member, Assessor, Commissioner (in various commissions) and like judicial or quasi-judicial appoinements;
  • Appointments as Soicitor General, Director of Public Prosecutions, Public Trustee and like senior public service postions;
  • Appointments as Board Chair, CEO, Partner of a firm, Dean of Law and like senior management positions.
